JDRF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, providing community and activist services for the T1D population, and advocating for regulations favorable to medical research and approval of new and improved treatment modalities.

The Need:

JDRF wanted to develop the next generation app that will make a meaningful difference to Advocates, Fundraiser, Patients, staff and Supporters and to create a reliable community of people, resources, and Outreach Volunteers that supports the T1D community in times of need. They also needed a trusted digital space for their supporters to connect for their unique, personal, often times private T1D story and needs.

Tring’s Approach:

JDRF had a detailed digital transformation plan and had a clear vision and mission and hence the first step was to review the months of work done by Blue State Digital and a multidisciplinary JDRF team, interviewing dozens of stakeholders including chapters and supports. In the process we did our own research as well and conducted a mobile assessment of the current JDRF Mobile App and provide direction on the best path-forward for JDRF in the mobile app space. The assessment covered:

What the app is capable of in its’ current state.

Compare the app to similar apps offered by competitors and similar organizations.

Identify gaps in what the JDRF app offers vs. the competition.

Provide recommendations on how best to improve JDRF’s mobile offering.

The process of implementing the mobile app consisted of (1) Discover; (2) Define; (3) Design; (4) System Architecture; (5) Development and testing of the mobile application; (6) Launch
We leveraged insights from our intensive design thinking sessions to identify improvement areas and recommend mobile best practices for the new mobile applications. These insights allowed us to provide an easy-to-use experience with a custom mobile solution for iOS and Android.

Guidelines for parents and children to fight T1D

Assistance to people suffering from T1D through counseling, medical treatment as well as charity.

Outcome (90-day-assessment):

70% of all new supporter acquisition through OneWalk

Percentage of total online revenue increased to 18% from 13%

Increased the donar retention rate by 32%

Standardized the distribution system in order to more accurately track Bag of Hope participation

Tracked Bag of Hope sign ups in Google Analytics

Optimized content within the Bag of Hope/T1D Care Kit to streamline supporter onboarding
